Anne Melhuish wreck
ex 3-masted barque converted to Hulk. Register closed 1972 with advice left to rot on bank at Stockton, NSW while other reports say it was a coal hulk in Albany and sunk 1899, raised and scuttled 1900. Anne Melhuish (1846-1899) The three-masted wooden sailing barque Anne Melhuish was built in Portmadoc, Wales. In 1879 it was registered in New Zealand. It operated as an Albany coal hulk between 1883 and 1899 and was owned by the King George Sound Coal Company In 1899 at night it sank while moored alongside another coal hulk, the Margaret. After divers inspecting the hull reported that it could not be refloated, the submerged wreck was subsequently broken up with explosives to clear the harbour seafloor, the remains raised by divers and transported and dumped off Bald Head by the hulk St Lawrence.
