CAMERA, Movie
H1991.138
Pathescope 9.5mm movie camera with a 9m Pathe cassette inserted. Has a spring motor, wound by a large attached silver key on one side. There are three buttons also on this side - the film meter marked 0 to 9, one which operates filming, another with a large arrow. An eye-level finder is built into the camera body instead of the folding frame finder found on the earlier Pathe Baby. The lens is marked "TRIANAR KRAUSS F-2CM NO257009" and settings above it are "3.5 5 7 10 14". Inside, the removable cassette with film intact is lettered "PATHESCOPE / TYPE / H / BRITISH PATENTS.236157 / 236120. 234423.292604 / OTHERS APPLIED FOR / MADE IN ENGLAND / THE PROPERTY OF PATHESCOPE LTD". Affixed to the inside of the camera door, "POINTS TO REMEMBER" and instructions for use. Crinkle finish, black painted body, probably a Pathe National 1. For related objects see H91.0135 to H91.0140. Pathe Freres, Pathe S.A.,(Paris, France) was a major motion picture company. They introduced the 28mm movie format and reduced a large 35mm feature movie library to 28mm safety film to increase their home movie business. This reduced the cost and size of films and, more importantly, encouraged the use of fire-resistant film in the home. CL1 PHOTOGRAPHY CL2 Cameras-Cine CL3 movie camera
