PHOTOGRAPH, Portrait
H1990.60
Portrait of a woman standing with one hand on a piece of furniture. Her quality long-length dress and draped sheer stole, as well as her elegant jewellery, stamp this woman as a person of means. The hair is swept up and pinned at the top of her head. There is no record of the identity of this woman, but it could be Bessie Rischbieth. In the lower right hand corner is the signature of the photographer, "BARDWELL CLARKE / PERTH WA." The Bardwell-Clarke Studios were advertised in the 1917 Western Australia Post Office Directory as "art photographers & miniature painters; evening sittings by electric light; C S Bardwell-Clarke (late of Lafayette studios), over Bon Marche Stores, 584 Hay St, Perth; tel A3547". There may be a frame for the photograph at Willetton Store.
