"Bubbles" synonymous with Pear's soap. From the original painting by J.E. Millais, 1886. T.J. Barratt of A. and F. Pears had enormously increased the output of Pear's soap by extensive advertising, maintaining he could do mu for the "spread of art and culture". This caused much public controversy, however.
