A cupronickel dodecagonal 50 cent coin. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II facing right and the lettering 'ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1988'. The reverse features a sailing ship over the East coast of an early map of Australia which names the country NEW HOLLAND; above is a compass and below the Southern Cross.
