EPEE BAYONET, 1874 Pattern, French

Hilt; Crossguard stamped R69986. Inspection marks unclear due to rust and paint. Barrel ring on one side, upward curve quillion with flat round finial on the other. One rivet in end of barrel ring and two in the centre of guard. Wooden hand grip painted black - chipped. One central rivet, the other holding the spring lock. Brass pommel.

Blade; long thin triangular blade tapering to double-edged point. Broad back edge engraved 'Paris-Oudrey - 1878'.

Scabbard; R69986 on metal band around throat which incorporates a square bar ring. Black paint peeling - rust in patches.
