BISCUIT TIN - SWALLOW & ARIELL
H1995.1299
Oblong tin with hinged lid and painted external surfaces in full colour. Sides feature a range of flowers against a cream background (now darkened); lid features a woman in Grecian-style robes with her hands raised above her head to touch flowering branches. She loads outward rather than upward, and has exposed arms and feet. Inside the lid, printed in black, is the inscription 'SWALLOW & ARIELL, LTD./ Biscuit Manufacturers/ PORT MELBOURNE/ PRIZES RECEIVED AT ALL INTERNATIONAL AND INTER-COLONIAL EXHIBITIONS'. The inscription is enclosed by a belt, with buckle at bottom of inscription. When the tin was acquired, it contained 11 dolly pegs and the label 'SKITTLES', written as if for exhibition in the Hall Museum. The pegs have been passed on to the WA Museum's education section.
