GYM BOOTS

H1990.20

Dark blue gym boots with red laces. They have a synthetic sole, rand and toe cap. The sole has a wave pattern, now very worn. The rand at the front has a series of vertical ridges. Along the toe cap and remainder of the rand is a diamond pattern. There is a blue stripe along this part of the rand, and a red stripe which goes right around the shoe at the top of the rand. At the back of the rand on the left boot is another piece of soling material with the word "FAST" in black enclosed in a black rectangle. The boots have a dark blue cotton upper which extends over the ankle. It is sewn in white cotton. On the outside of each ankle is a white disc of similar material to the sole. It has two red circles containing the words "FAST / SHOES", and in the centre a rectangle containing the letter "F" (all in red). On the tongue is a cloth label with a red background. At the top is the word "FAST" with the letter "R" in a circle next to it. Underneath is a large white square with the letter "F" in green. green. Viewed upside down, it spells the letter "F" in white. There are 7 shiny silver metal eyelets on each side of the shoe. The shoe is lined in white cotton. On the inside of each ankle three lines of information have been stamped in blue, but on both shoes on the bottom line is still visible : "MADE IN CHINA". Underneath the heel is the "F" logo which is on the tongue. Beneath this is written "FAST" / "44". The 44 refers to the size of the boots. Boots like this were a popular for leisure wear before being replaced by running shoes. They were also worn for basketball. The boots were purchased at a fundraising fete held by the Environment Centre in Fremantle during 1989. Items to be sold at the fete were donated by members and other interested people.
