Papier mache heads which have a layer of cream coloured paper on the outside. a,b. These are featureless blobs, moulded from thick papier mache. c. Finely featured head of a man with moulded ears, nose, mouth, eye sockets and eyebrows. It has one blue eye. The papier mache is thin. The mouth is also off centre. d. Head of man with moulded nose, ears, mouth and eyes. Features small and indefinite compared with size of head. Papier mache thick. e. Man's head shaped from adhesive tape and covered with a layer of fine white papier mache. Around the neck and inside the head appear to have been painted the same colour. Moulded ears, nose, mouth and eyes. f. Man or boy's head moulded from thick papier mache. Moulded ears, nose, eyes, and mouth. May have been painted white. The entire collection of marionettes and puppets, which includes 31 marionettes, 26 hand puppets (glove and rod), 20 puppet heads, 9 hand sticks, 3 stick dolls and a travelling stage, were used, and many were made, by Miss Frances Rogers. Miss Rogers, born on 19 Oct 1904, went to teacher's college in 1930 and joined the Education Department of WA in 1934. Between 1934 and her retirement in 1967, she taught at various country schools, took special classed for deaf and dumb children in Mosman Park, and classes for mentally and physically disabled children in Leederville. She used the puppets as teaching aids for the disabled children.
