We are proud that the WA Maritime Museum has been crowned Champion Tourist Attraction for 2024 at the Fremantle Business Awards, organised by the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce.

The award recognises the Museum’s considerable contribution to the Fremantle business and tourism economy. It is the culmination of a successful year in which the Museum not only hosted the JAMES CAMERON: CHALLENGING THE DEEP exhibition, but also welcomed James Cameron, himself, to Fremantle for an In Conversation event, hosted at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal.

In September 2023, the Museum marked the 40th Anniversary of Australia II winning the America’s Cup. The Museum developed the exhibition, Australia II: 40 Years On, and hosted a weekend of celebrations for everyone to relive the victory that stopped a nation!

Then, in October 2023 refurbishment of the Museum’s HMAS Ovens submarine was completed, bringing the former Royal Australian Navy Oberon Class submarine back to something like its former glory.

The Ovens is a much-loved attraction at the WA Maritime Museum with volunteer ex-submariners providing visitors with memorable tours of the vessel that played a significant part in Australia’s naval armoury.

“Winning this award is a testament to the dedication of our extraordinary team,” said WA Museum CEO, Alec Coles OBE.

“The WA Maritime Museum continues to set the standard for visitor experiences, and a huge thank you to our staff and volunteers and, of course, to everyone who supported us by voting.”

The Award comes on the back of the WA Maritime Museum being placed in the top ten per cent of attractions worldwide in 2024 based on Tripadvisor Travellers Choice, for the second year in a row!
