Arrived 1831 with wife & 3 children. Tried to grow wheat Fremantle, Karrakatta. Visit to Tasmania, then settled in Northam 1832 on 'Molby Farm'. Was permitted to select 4,600 acres & took them in the Avon District named 'Island Farm'. John traditionally first to bring sheep to Northam.

The name of John Morrell’s farm in Northam was Morby Cottage.
It is still a beautiful intact building and has been retained as a museum of the area’s early settlement times. It can be visited on Sundays.
