Dress, silver silk, halter neck style, sheer fabric with 'hands in gloves' detail, designed by 'Ruth Tarvydas', Perth, Western Australia.
H2018.154
This full length evening dress is made from silver sheer silk. It has a high halter neck with a tie closure.
The neckline is embellished with ninteen large, oval shaped, faceted crystals, that have been arranged
in three tiers. The bodice is fitted, and is both backless and sleeveless. A pair of synthetic,
dove grey gloves have been attached so that the hands cover the bust. A second pair of identical gloves
have been applied so that the hands cover the crotch. They extend from a rosette in the centre back
of the dress. A third pair of identical gloves extends from the rosette at the back of the garment,
with the hands covering (some of) the bottom.
History:
This dress was worn by model Nicole McKendry during an Australian Fashion Week event c2002.
According to Nicole 'this dress got lots of media attention due to the revealing nature of the garment'
(Nicole McKendry, 2018). The style is playful, irreverent and sexy, a signature of Ruth Tarvydas' style.
