Until/ he was seven years old he lived in Highland Park, Michigan. When he was eight his/ family moved to a new home near Wilmington Delaware. At fifteen Bill went out on his/ own, worked in an open air park, yodeled with a band, trouped with a traveling medicine/ show, and got himself a job with the popular "Down Homers" working out of Hartford,/ Conneticut. a little later he became musical director and leader of his own band over/ Radio Station WPWA in Chester, Pennsylvania, a town near which Bill now makes his home./ Bill Haley's rise has been spectacular. His first musical instrument was a/ home-made guitar, which he made from cardboard. When he entered his teens his father/ gave him a real one, and Bill got his first job at thirteen playing at auctions at $1.00/ a night.
