Machine made, molded brown glass whiskey bottle with slighly tapering flat bottomed cylindrical body, rounded shoulders and slightly bulbous medium lengthed neck. Vertical mold seam runs through collared lip. Stoppered with wide lipped, gold covered short cork bearing embossed black printed words: 'EXTRA SPECIAL'. Insect damaged vertical rectangular paper label adhered to front of body, printed in black and gold with gold embossed British royal crest above manufactures details . It reads: 'BY APPOINTMENT TO THE LATE GEORGE V/ JOHN HAIG & CO. LTD./ ... GOLD LABEL/ LIQUER SCOTCH WHISKY. Below this is a seperate smaller horizontal rectangular label. It reads: 'DISTILLED IN SCOTLAND/ BOTTLED IN THE UNITED KINGDOM...'Hand written across both labels in irregular blue coloured-pencil writing is: ‘TO BE KEPT TIL / AFTER THE WAR / JD Day [signature] / This bottle has seen / service in WD [Western Desert] and / was at the final Battle of / Al (sic) Alamein JDD [signed initials]’. Diamond shaped insect damaged label adhered to back side of bottle. This is printed in black and red with manufacturer's product testimonial and angled facsimile signature: 'John Haig Co. Ltd.' above a small line illustration of a dimpled whiskey bottle. Bottle is one third full of whiskey.
