[.1] SUITCASE; Rectangular, dark brown grained pressed cardboard suitcase, with leather-covered metal carry handle at front when laying flat. Two protective wooden rails? secured around the case. Brown protective metal bumpers. ‘SKELE / PERTH’ hand printed in black felt pen? on lid.
Metal catch at centre front of lid. Maker’s logo above on long, narrow, white metal tag with dark blue ink in Latvian; '‘A. RATFELDER/ RIGA Kalku Iela No 11/ Smalkadu sporta un/ Nuraviru special fabrika'’. Remnants of white paper shipping (?) label with green ‘S’, adhered near right hand side of handle. Top hinged to base at rear with three symmetrical lightly corroded plated steel two-piece hinges, riveted to body. Case is lined with rust-marked cream cloth. Three cream coloured tinfoil labels with gold lettering and detail, inside lid, bottom centre. Larger rectangular label with maker’s details located between two smaller labels; '‘A. Ratfelders/ RIGA KALKU IELA 11/ SPEC. CELOSANU SPORTA UN/ FORMAS TERPU PIEDERUMU/ RUPNIECIBA', printed in blue. Left side small foil label: 'GRAND PRIX PARIZE 1927'. Right side small foil label; 'REPUBLIOVE/ FRANCAISE/ EXPOSITION DU BIEN-ETRE/ PARIS 1927 LIEL.ZELTA/ MEDALIS'. Mouth of body base section is reinforced with rectangular W45mm wood support. Corresponding lid section has similar W30mm wood support around interior edges. Flat, L140mm, jointed, metal bracket attaches lid to base at rear left interior. Four L60mm interior metal corner brackets sit below mouth, to support separate tray/shelf (not extant).
[.2] LABEL; Asymmetrical white plain paper label folded to form a rectangle, with silver-fish damage. Handwritten on label in Latvian in black ink; '‘Atminu lade'’ ('memory box').
