Description:
[1] STERILIZER - Medium cylindrical, khaki painted scratched and lightly corroded, nickel plated thin gauge steel sheet, fruit and vegetable sterilizer. Rolled rim at top, plain sides except for decorative slightly raised press moulded triple banded lines running around unit near top and bottom. Two join seams run vertically at directly opposite sides at the top of which are small hinged rod oblong handles attached below rim via dual riveted and soldered small trapezoid plate. Soldered to lower side is a small half cylindrical, khaki painted, steel sheet thermometer dipping tank, with small half circle top into which thermometer was placed. Oval plaque soldered to side below upper rim with raised relief lettering reads “FOWLERS/ “VACOLA”/ REG N° E10450/ STERILIZER”.
Worn nickel plated interior with raised circular steel sheet bottle base with multiple machine punched perforations, attached to lower wall via metal hinge. Seven small machine punched perforations through to tank vent on side.
[2] LID – Medium sized, circular, khaki painted, nickel plated thin gauge steel sheet, sterilizer lid. Rolled lip, two small oblong hinged rod handles at opposite sides of topside attached via rivets. Lid designed to give firm seal to sterilizer.
[3-9] JARS x7 – Medium sized, cylindrical, thick gauge clear glass, fruit & vegetable bottling jars. Concentric circular groove, designed to hold rubber band seal run immediately below jar top. Jars designed to fit neatly inside sterilizer. All jars have raised moulded manufacture marks on exterior bottom reading “FOWLERS N° 31”
[3-5] reads “1953” & engraved “P48/P47/PN°45”
[6-7] reads “M197” and engraved “D14”
[8-9] reads “F1356/ 020” & engraved “0/020”
[10-18] LIDS x9 - Small, circular, brassed, very thin gauge sheet metal, embossed “FOWLERS/REG. No./ 28195/ VACOLA” lid with flared lip, designed to seal top of bottling jar.
[13-18] Additional stamp (below “28195”) “4"”
[19-26] LID CLIPS x9 - Small, M like shape with half circles at ends, plated slightly corroded, very thin gauge pressed sheet metal spring clips designed to fit over lid and hold them to jar. All stamped with “FOWLERS VACOLA REG₫ N° 28195”
[27] RUBBER BAND - Small, circular, discoloured white, rubber band designed to fit in groove of bottling jar forming a seal between jar and lid.
[28] BOXED THERMOMETER - Small, semi cylindrical, light metal, marked, frame surrounding narrow, elongated cylindrical glass tubed thermometer. Black printed vertical markings along tube give reading from 20-240°F and manufacture details “TRADE MARK VACOLA REGISTERED/ FOWLERS VACOLA MFG_ C° LTD_”. Designed to fit into thermometer dipping tank.
Stored inside a medium, elongated rectangular, very light brown, cardboard “FOWLERS VACOLA THERMOMETER” box. Printed in red on outside is “Mrs B. Thrifty SAYS/ Owners of/ BOTTLING OUTFITS/ you need/ THESE” in between a picture of a woman with wand and an arrow pointing to a rectangular FOWLERS box, also printed is “The set comprises:/ Peach Pitting Spoon, Vacuum Bottle/ Opener, Fruit Packing Stick, Stainless/ Fruit Knife, Pear Corer and Bottle/ Lifting Tongs”. A price (?) has been written in pencil alongside these adverts “11/4”. On other side of box is a “NOTICE” describing care for the thermometer.
[29] INSTRUCTION MANUAL - Small, rectangular, very light brown, 96 paged paperback “FOWLER’S/ METHOD OF/ BOTTLING/ FRUITS AND/ VEGETABLES/ COPYRIGHT/ BY J.FOWLER” instruction manual. 4 pictures of medals on front cover, on back cover “FOLWERS/ VACOLA/ Wholly Set-up and Printed by The Speciality Press Pty. Ltd., Melbourne, Australia”
[30] RETAIL PRICE LIST – Small, rectangular, full coloured photographs on white paper, “Fowlers Vacola/ bottling outfits/ RETAIL PRICE LIST” folded pamphlet. Photograph of family with bottled fruits and photograph of cake topped with fruit on front.
