H1988.567.a-b

a. black and white studio photograph of Roy and Vicky Delso. Marked on front in white "ORPHEUM/ CHICAGO". Vicky looks from a side angle towards the camera whilst stretched out on a wooden seat, across which (from the left) an attentive Roy leans, his eyes only for the luminescent Vicky. She wears pale tights, and a fringed top. Her hair falls in dark shingles, caressed by a dark rose above the right breast and a pale ribbon above the right ear. This is without doubt a promotional shot, Vicky alone wearing the clothes of her trade, the less seductive Roy remaining demure (yet dapper) in his plus-fours. Originally from Albany, Vicky and Roy had a highwire act, travelling in America in the 1920's. b. Black and white studio photograph; Roy and Vicky Delso dressed in stage gear, Vicky wearing lace up boots and a gay dress and bonnet (the milkmaid?), Roy wearing a striped jacket, pale pants and shoes, with boater tucked under one arm. A dancing duo - possible vaudeville promotional material. The back is stamped "AUSTRALIAN DELSOS / TO BE RETURNED TO / PHOTOGRAPH AND PRESS / BUREAU, INC, / PALACE THEATRE /NEW YORK CITY.
