Join Penny Arrow as she discusses the world-class expertise developed in the North West pearling industry, reflecting on the challenges and rewards of being an innovative small-scale producer in a competitive industry. Penny has worked with her brother Steve for 20 years in developing Arrow Pearls’ business, which has involved introducing innovative techniques around the husbandry of the pearl shell, along with Steve’s work as an advocate for protection of pearl shell beds. Steve has also been heavily involved in working with local traditional experts and artists such as Aubrey Tigan, with whom Arrow Pearls has collaborated to develop a bespoke range of pearl jewellery incorporating Aubrey’s designs. Penny will talk about the knowledge transfer that has occurred during the extensive time that the Arrow Pearls team have spent working in Saltwater Country and alongside the traditions of Saltwater people.

Please note: originally Steve Arrow was scheduled to present this lecture, but due to unforeseen circumstances is unable to attend this event. Penny Arrow has kindly agreed to step in, and has collaborated with Steve to restructure this presentation.
