One of the easiest ways of identifying frogs is by listening to the male advertisement call. Each species has a distinctive call, so if you can identify the call you call tell which species it is.
Dale Roberts of the University of Western Australia has studied frogs for over 30 years and has recorded most WA species. This CD focuses on the southwest region, from Shark Bay to Esperance and contains the calls of all 30 species from the region.
The CD begins with a series of tracks where the call is given first, followed by the name of the species. The next series is just the frog calls themselves to really challenge the listener (especially when the player is set to random!). The CD finishes with extended recordings of choruses from autumn, winter and spring.
The CD is only $15 and is available from the WA Museum shop in Perth.
