The Western Australian Museum – Albany’s new Creative Spaces pop up gallery will host its first installation from March 22 to 28, 2013.

Western Australian Museum - Albany regional manager Rachael Wilsher-Saa said the Museum’s pop up gallery is part of a world-wide movement towards renewing and revitalising empty or disused spaces for public art.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer local artists this space, previously used for storage, to share their works with the public,” Ms Wilsher-Saa said.

“The Great Southern region has an extremely strong arts community, and the Museum is delighted to play a part in showcasing it.”

The first artist to utilise the pop up gallery will be ‘Shreds Art’ creator Jenni Bourke, who began painting as a form of self-expression before accidentally discovering creative knitting.

Ms Bourke’s unique designs range from wall hangings, to wearable art in the form of neckpieces, jewellery, scarves, shawls and hand-dyed clothing.

“Jenni’s art will be the first of many exciting and dynamic local artists’ works to be displayed in the Museum’s ‘Creative Spaces’ pop up gallery over the coming months,” Ms Wilsher-Saa said.

The Creative Spaces pop up gallery will open at the WA Museum – Albany on March 22. Entry is free.
