How to find gold

News | Created 24 Feb 2015

The Western Australian Museum – Kalgoorlie-Boulder will host a lecture this week about how to find gold more easily.

Senior exploration geologist David Nixon will present Clz – Not All Laterites Are Created Equal to answer common questions asked by prospectors, on Wednesday 25 February.

WA Museum – Kalgoorlie-Boulder Regional Manager Zoe Scott said it will be interesting to hear how someone with extensive local knowledge finds gold on the Goldfields.

“I can only imagine how frustrated prospectors must be when they return with nothing to show for their efforts,” Ms Scott said.

“It’s going to be fascinating to hear Mr Nixon explain geology codes, and what it is about physical properties of gold and the features in the natural environment prospectors can use to find gold more easily.”

Clz – Not All Laterites Are Created Equal is the first of seven lectures this year that will be hosted by the WA Museum – Kalgoorlie-Boulder.  Other lectures include:

  • 4 March, National Trust WA: CY O’Connor Lecture Series – presented by Curtin University Vice Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry;
  • 22 April, Tales from the Archaen of the Eastern Goldfields – presented by Curtin University Adjunct Professor Bob Fagan;
  • 27 May, Questa Casa – presented by Questa Casa owner Carmel Galvin;
  • 27 June, Faith, fashion, fusion: Muslim women’s style in Australia – presented by Powerhouse Museum exhibition curator Glynis Jones;
  • 22 July, Loopline… Where we have been and where we are going – presented by Loopline Railway General Manager Mike Lucas, and committee member Richelle Brooks;
  • 19 August, Fireballs in the sky: Understanding the light of meteors to perfect meteorite hunting – presented by WA Museum Earth and Planetary Sciences and Curtin University Geoscience.

“The WA Museum is proud to be hosting these lectures as we want to give the community the opportunity to hear about a range of thought-provoking topics presented by an array of experts,” Ms Scott said.

All lectures commence at 5.30pm.  Bookings are recommended via 9021 8533 or eomog@museum.wa.gov.au.  Entry is by donation unless otherwise specified, and venue details are on the WA Museum website: http://museum.wa.gov.au
